Technology stocks, particularly software companies pulled back meaningfully in March. Much of this was driven by a shift in how investors are thinking about AI, artificial intelligence, and its potential impact on existing business models. So this isn’t really a story of technology disappearing, but more so a story of repricing expectations. Markets are reassessing which companies are going to benefit from innovation, and which ones are going to be really disrupted by it.
Now, at the same time, we’ve seen a rotation into value-oriented investments, so those are areas of the market that tend to be more attractively priced, and in some cases, more resilient in uncertain environments. For diversified portfolios, this is a healthy development.
Leadership in markets doesn’t stay concentrated forever. We view this as a normalization process rather than a structural change, and it reinforces the importance of maintaining exposures across different styles and sectors.
