SPOTLIGHT Interview

~What is your role at CAISSA? (i.e. How would you explain your job to someone new to financial services?)~
I am an Investment Associate and serve on the Investment Committee. My role includes researching mutual funds/ETFs, rebalancing and trading accounts, creating investment policy statements, and overseeing our performance reporting software.

~What gets you excited about your work?~
I love the challenge of analyzing the current market environment and translating it in a way that can be understood by the average investor. It allows me to combine my analytical skills with my passion of helping people.

~Why financial services?~
I believe there is a lack of financial education taught in school which can cause even the brightest people to never experience financial freedom. I want to better educate our clients to help give them the best life possible.

~Where did you attend college and what was your major/minor?~
I went to the University of Minnesota – Duluth and participated in the Financial Markets Program.

~What is the last test or next test you are working on?~
I am currently studying for the CIMA (Certified Investment Management Analyst) exam.

~How do you pass the time when you’re not in the office?~
I love to spend time at my cabin in northern Minnesota fishing and waterskiing as well as cheering for Minnesota’s sports teams.

~What’s a fun fact about you many people may not know?~
I can wiggle my ears and I have met Terri Irwin (Steve Irwin’s wife).

~Where’s your favorite place in the world?~
Australia! I did a study abroad trip there in college and got to scuba dive the Great Barrier Reef, see the Sydney Opera House, and pet a kangaroo.

~If you could choose anyone, who would you pick as your mentor?~
Hank Paulson – former U.S Treasury Secretary who served from 2006-2009 during the financial crisis. There is an awesome documentary on him called “Hank: 5 Years from the Brink.” I think he had outstanding leadership given the severity of the crisis.

~What’s your favorite indoor/outdoor activity?~
Favorite indoor activity is going to the gym and favorite outdoor activity is fishing.

~What was your first or weirdest job?~
My first job was at Majestic Oaks golf course as a “Grounds Crew Engineer” which is a fancy way of saying that I did a lot of mowing and tree trimming.
