CAISSA: Tax Notices

January 24, 2023

Dear Client,

Thank you for allowing us to be your trusted advisor. As we near tax filing time, we thought we would share a few tips with you to make your tax return preparation more efficient.

1099s

We wanted to remind you that the official tax reports (1099) are likely to be available by February 28 and can be found through the Caissawealth.com resources page. (Choose “Schwab Login” to get to Schwab Alliance. If you need assistance, call Schwab Alliance at 1-800-515-2157.) Please log in to get your 1099s for the 2022 tax year.

IRA Distribution for Taxes

If you took a distribution from a qualified retirement account, you will receive a 1099-R (by the end of February). Even a direct rollover to a traditional IRA or other eligible tax-qualified plan, must be reported on Form 1099-R.

It is your responsibility to make your tax advisor and/or income tax preparer aware if you completed a rollover that was deposited into a qualified account within 60 days. Tax preparers need to be aware of this to make sure it is treated as a non-taxable rollover.

A Form 5498 will be prepared by your IRA Trustee or Custodian which will indicate the amount that was rolled over; this form will be available to you by May 31. Be sure to save this document along with the rest of your tax documents for that
year as it is your substantiation of your rollover

Solo 401(k) Plan

For those Solo 401(k) Plans, in which the combined value of assets is over $250,000, the administrator of the plan is required to file Form 5500 EZ with the IRS by July 31st.

The purpose of Form 5500 is to provide the IRS and DOL with information about the plan’s operation and compliance with government regulations. In general, all retirement plans, such as profit-sharing and 401(k) plans,
must file a Form 5500 for every year the plan holds assets.
